With just a few days to go before the first race meet of the 2012 season slated for this Sunday January 29 at the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club at No6 West Coast Berbice, all systems are already in place. The Track is in the best of condition and the Grand Stand recently refurbished with new seating accommodation added which will now cater for a few thousand more fans.
Over 80 horses have taken entry for the one day meet in what is expected to be a grand opening act. Eight races are carded for the day and a whopping $8M in cash and other incentives have now being pumped into the day’s proceedings.
The feature Banks DIH Limited sponsored B class event will see the winner racing away with over $1.2M and Trophy with the total package for the event being pegged at over $2.5M and trophy. Those entered make up an impressive lineup with animals such as The Message, Jet Set Go, Grande De Roja, Donut Prince, Who So Ever, Fresh Again, Miss Karina, Clever cat, Miss Orientate and Marathon man among those looking to gallop away with the hefty sum on offer over 1600M and a keen battle is anticipated. All the other events are 1200M races.
The competition is expected to be as keen in the event for Three Years old horses, Born and Bred in Guyana and West Indies with Settle in Seattle, Serenity, Storm In a Tea Cup, Big Red, Rosetta, Happy Choice, Windy war, Feels Like Gold and Rock Sonia all looking for the win. The first prize is set at a tantalizing $500,000 and trophy.
The race of the day could very well be the newly introduced 4 year old event with anyone of the horses set to race away with this event. The lineup is an impressive one with the likes of Technology, Swing Easy, Work Force, Damascus Dream, Captain Crook, Bridal Stone Corner, Super cat, Week end Surprise, Peace and love, Awesome Warrior, Northern dancer and Sabrina’s Joy all be looking to stamp their name and take away the top money of $400,000 and trophy.
The E and Lower match up for pole position money also $400,000 should see Horses such as Night Crescendo, Top of the Line, Got to Go, Home Bush Baby, Majestic, the Bailiff and Face the Music set to face each other in another highly anticipated event.
There is the three year old event for Guyana Bred and Born horses with a first prize of $300,000. With I want Revenge, Watch My Shadow, Baby Flyer, Cat Thief, Blessings, Little Tip Top, Bad Romance and News Time among the lineup.
The G class gallop for a winning purse of $300,000 and trophy has the likes of The Gap, Miracle Run, South Sea, Bridal Stone Corner, Peace and Love, Stormy Deal, Damascus Dream, Appealing Harvest, Gabriel’s gold, Dream Girl and Miss Regina competing.
The ‘I’ and lower animals entered for the $200,000 top prize are Miracle silver, Mona Lisa, Flying Object, Diplomat, Pleasant Surprise, Lil Axe, Speed Vision, The Gump, Nobody Knows, Royal Time, Kevin, Customs warrior and Pinky.
The Division 1, 2 and 3 animals will race for a first prize of $150,000 and among those entered are; She is royal, Mr. Cool, O So Sharp, Black Tricks and Gaza man.
The top individual performers including top Jockey and stable will receive accolades compliments of Trophy Stall Bourda Market. Some of the major Sponsors are Winners Circle Pool Hall, Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, Shariff Racing Stable and Jumbo Jet Auto Sales.
Music will be supplied by Mingles Sound Machine and there will be a grand after race party at the Winners Circle Pool Hall at NO22, Bel Air Village West Coast Berbice.
